The Golden Apple Snail (Pomacea spp.) or GAS is classified as an alien invasive pest of rice, taro and other plants that grow in aquatic environments. The Scientific Information Database on GAS* provides access to approximately three decades of literature on ecology, damanage, management options and utilization. It includes over 400 GAS-related articles, and over 100 images. The information is sourced from experts around the world. This database is designed as a reference tool or a resource package for agricultural technicians, researchers, advisers, students and for those engaged in GAS research, extension and training. Also available on CD-ROM, the user can take this database and study it, while on travel. The references are easily accessed through Adobe Acrobat Reader. Information in the database is searchabel by author, title, year of publication, journal title, keywords.

The GAS database is a very large searchable database of photographs, references, and internet resources that must be downloaded in a series of four very large compressed zip files.
IMPORTANT! In order for the database to work, the contents of each zip file MUST be extracted 'with folder names' into the same root folder. You must download and extract all files in order for the database to work.

CD-ROM Ordering Information

The Department of Agriculture-Regional Field Unit-Cordillera Administrative Region (DA-RFU-CAR) published the GAS CD-ROM in collaboration with Department of Agriculture-Philippine Rice Research Institute (DA-PhilRice), Agricultural Librarians Association of the Philippines (ALAP). The Department of Agriculture-Cordillera Highland Agricultural Resource Management Project (DA-CHARMP) provided the financial and all necessary support for this project.

Future plans include developing web wizards, establishing mirror sites for webpage and translating CD contents into Spanish, Chinese, Thai, Khmer, Vietnamese, Indonesian, and other languages.
