1. A mortiser comprising:
a base for supporting a workpiece, the base having an upper and a lower surface;
a support extending from the base;
a carriage connected to the support and disposed above the base, the carriage having a motor with a chuck for driving an auger
and a chisel lock for connecting a chisel thereto;
a clamp for retaining the workpiece on the base in at least one direction; and
a fence connected to the base below the carriage and having an upstanding wall that is generally perpendicular to the upper
surface of the base, the upstanding wall defining an opening through which at least a portion of the clamp is disposed;
wherein the fence includes a threaded post extending from the fence in substantial alignment with the opening defined by the
upstanding wall, and the clamp further comprises:
a first body defining an opening through which the threaded post is disposed;
at least one arm extending from the first body for positioning over an upper surface of the workpiece to prevent the workpiece
from lifting off of the base; and
a second body threaded onto the post extending from the fence and abutting the first body to prevent the first body and arms
extending therefrom from lifting off of the workpiece and capable of driving the arm into engagement with the workpiece to
positively clamp the workpiece.
