MISSION

The Atlanta Regional Office is responsible for delivering non-medical VA benefits and services to Georgia veterans and their families. This is accomplished through the administration of comprehensive and diverse benefit programs established by Congress, and our goal is to deliver these benefits and services in a timely, accurate, and compassionate manner. Examples of the benefits and services administered by the VA Regional Office are as follows:

- Disability compensation, including death compensation benefits available to eligible survivors
- Disability and death pensions for veterans and their dependents
- Veterans' and dependents' education and training
- Vocational rehabilitation and employment assistance
- Guaranty and Indemnity home loans 
- Special benefits for the disabled
- Outreach
- Certain burial benefits

The Atlanta Regional Office (RO) is located at 1700 Clairmont Road, Decatur, Georgia 30033. The Office is comprised of Veterans Service Center, Education, Loan Guaranty, and Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment (VR&E) business lines. We are staffed with approximately 510 employees.

We are a Regional Processing Center (RPO) for educational benefits (Montgomery GI Bill). Our region consists of nine (9) southern states (AL, GA, LA, MS, FL, AR, NC, SC, and TN) and the commonwealth of Puerto Rico. As of the end of last fiscal year the RPO workload accounted for 25.3% of the national workload for education claimants. The RO processed 213,121 education claims and provided training to 98,499 trainees.

In addition to being an RPO, we are also a Regional Loan Center (RLC) that processes and services VA guaranteed loans for the states of Georgia, Tennessee, North Carolina and South Carolina. Since the inception of the VA home loan program, VA has assisted in our four state jurisdiction more than 1,350,000 veterans and their families to obtain mortgages totaling more than 60 billion dollars.

The Veterans Service Center (VSC) business line delivers non-medical benefits for over 100,000 veterans or their families for compensation, pension, death compensation or death pensions payments that exceed $49,000,000 monthly. VSC has outbased veterans benefit counselors at Ft. Benning, Ft. Stewart/Hunter Army Air Field and Ft. Gordon. We also provide itinerant military service to Ft. McPherson, Robins AFB, Moody AFB, Marine Supply Depot and Kings Bay Naval Submarine Base.
