16th Field Artillery Observation Battalion, United States Army,
for meritorious achievement in connection with military operations
against the enemy from 1 October 1944 to 15 December 1944, in
Belgium, Luxembourg, and Germany. Entered military service from
Washington, D.C.

CITATION
LIEUTENANT
COLONEL JOSEPH P. LUSHENE, K-100015, Field Artillery, 16th Field
Artillery Observation Battalion, United States Army. For exceptionally
meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding service
in connection with military operations against an enemy of the
United States during the period 1 October 1944 to 15 December
1944. As Commanding Officer, Lieutenant Colonel Lushene demonstrated
outstanding ability, initiative, and leadership in coordinating
the varied agencies of his Battalion, influencing their combat
efficiency, and contributing to their successful employment.
His skillful evaluation of the situation, prior planning for
future contingencies, and technical advice provided invaluable
assistance to the Corps Artillery Commander in the conduct of
combat operations and materially affected the successful employment
of the artillery with the VIII Corps. Entered Military Service
from Washington, D.C.
