Abstract: The jury's five final selections include programs involving commercial crime watch, foot patrol, citizen awareness, a graphic information system, and victim assistance. The Aiken County commercial crime watch program involves citizens in the security monitoring of rural businesses and the use of the dispatch capabilities and employees of these businesses to report suspicious neighborhood activity. The foot patrol program focuses on the downtown area of Charleston, and the citizen awareness program welcomes new residents to Florence and provides them with information on city police services. The graphic information system for Greenville geographically references daily traffic accidents, citations, and crimes to facilitate analysis and policy development. The Lexington County victim assistance program assigns officers to work with victims, particularly on matters related to case processing. Other programs described focus on child sexual abuse prevention, police report writing, juvenile awareness of driving responsibilities, rape risk reduction, arson investigation, and school programs.
