Direct reaction contributions are not 6419 1451 33 included. 6419 1451 34 6419 1451 35 Exit particles considered are neutrons, protons, alpha particles, 6419 1451 36 and deuterons. Transmission coefficients for neutrons and protons 6419 1451 37 were obtained from an optical potential for rare earth elements 6419 1451 38 developed by F. Dietrich and using the ECIS code. The 6419 1451 39 transmission coefficients for alpha particles were obtained from 6419 1451 40 the optical potential of Avrigeanu, et.al. Those for deuterons 6419 1451 41 are from the optical potential of Lohr and Haeberli. Alpha and 6419 1451 42 deuteron transmission coefficients were calculated using the 6419 1451 43 SCAT2 routine. An enhanced generalized Lorentzian is assumed for 6419 1451 44 the E1 photon strength function, and is normalized to measured or 6419 1451 45 systematic values of the average total s-wave radiation width at 6419 1451 46 the neutron binding energy. 6419 1451 47 6419 1451 48 Backshifted Fermi gas level density parameters are derived from 6419 1451 49 measured s-wave resonance spacings where available. For other 6419 1451 50 nuclei, systematic values are adopted. At low energies a constant 6419 1451 51 temperature form is adopted, and the two formulae are matched at 6419 1451 52 an energy between the backshift and the neutron binding energy so 6419 1451 53 as to give the best possible fit to known spectroscopic levels. 6419 1451 54 6419 1451 55 Discrete levels are taken from the Reference Input Parameter 6419 1451 56 Library (RIPL) with additional evaluations performed by R.
