Course Descriptions Adapting Tech Tools so No Child is Left Behind This workshop will provide educators with the skills necessary to make Windows based computers accessible to all students. Topics covered will include the accessibility features of Windows, changing monitor resolution, customizing keyboards and mice, accessible web sites, and free or inexpensive assistive technology hardware and software which bridge the technology gap for students with disabilities. Educators will leave with and assistive technology implementation plan. Building a Technology Mentor Team: This course is designed for teams of four educators representing individual schools and/or districts. Participants explore proven innovative technology initiatives, design technology integration activities to meet their school's needs and increase student achievement, and develop and implement a professional development training model for all professional and support personnel in their school. Designing Web Pages: This course is designed to assist classroom teachers in developing web pages to enhance their classroom instruction and promote effective communication with students and parents. Participants learn basic techniques and create a website. In addition, participants create message boards, on-line forms, and on-line quizzes. Engaging Parents and School Community through Technology: This course is designed to increase parent and student involvement in school technology. Teachers learn to utilize technology to provide resources and effective communication to parents and the entire school community. This course helps teachers increase their understanding of technology and its applications in the school environment. Handheld Applications This workshop covers the basics of handheld computers and their applications in the classroom. Participants learn how to use handheld software and educational tools such as graphic organizers, spreadsheets, and educational programs. We specialize in handhelds that use the Palm Operating system including the DANA by Alphasmart. Implementing Technology Tools: This workshop empowers educators with tools and strategies to enhance student learning through the use of technology. Training includes utilizing web site resources, technology integration strategies, constructivist learning approaches, as well as the use of scanners, digital cameras, large group projection devices, hand-held devices, video conferencing, and adaptive assistive technologies. Integrating MS Office into the Classroom This course is designed to provide teachers opportunities to develop proficiency and critical judgment in computer-based applications in curriculum, teaching- learning activities and student assessment. The primary attention is to provide the participant the opportunity to develop an awareness of how technology can be used in the classroom. The course will address the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) Standards and National Educational Technology Standards (NETS) for students and teachers. MS Office Applications The courses provide professional training for a wide range of Microsoft Office applications including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access and Front Page. Theses classes can be offered at a Basic Introductory or Intermediate Level. Introduction to MVal This workshop covers the basics of handheld computers and their administrative/supervisory applications. Training addresses techniques to maximize time and efficiency by conducting personnel evaluations on site, tracking student attendance, accessing information during parent meetings, and more. Preparing for Teacher Evaluation: This workshop prepares classroom teachers for personnel evaluations based on ISTE/NETS Standards. Participants learn technology strategies and techniques to meet and exceed the standards required in their classrooms. GLOBE improves student understanding of science because it involves them in performing real science - taking measurements, analyzing data, and collaborating in research with scientists.
