Rochford Succeeds Day as Division Chief

Kent Rochford became the new Division Chief of the Optoelectronics Division on January 6, 2003, following the retirement of Gordon Day. Day joined NIST (then NBS) in 1969 and participated in a wide range of research programs, including work on fundamental constants, laser radiometry, optical communications, and optical fiber sensors. He became the first Division Chief of the Optoelectronics Division when it was formed in 1994. Rochford holds a Ph.D. in Optical Sciences from the University of Arizona and has broad experience in optoelectronic metrology. He joined NIST in 1992 where he conducted and led research on measurements and standards for sensing and communications. After two years in a small company working on components for high performance communication systems, he returned to NIST as a Senior Scientist in 2002.
