Del Rio, Texas – U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to the Del Rio Sector seized more than 900 pounds of marijuana in a remote canyon north of Comstock, Texas, early this morning.

Agents assigned to the Comstock station working with a vehicle-mounted forward looking infrared system noticed suspicious activity involving what appeared to be a pair of individuals going into the canyon. Agents on the ground approached the location and discovered several large duffle bags where the two individuals had last been seen. A search of the area for the two individuals led to the discovery of a total of 13 large bags.

The bags contained a combined total of nearly 950 pounds of marijuana valued at more than $832,000. The contraband was turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration.

Further searching for the two unidentified individuals did not result in their location and they are believed to have absconded from the area.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection is the unified border agency within the Department of Homeland Security charged with the management, control and protection of our nation's borders at and between the official ports of entry. CBP is charged with keeping terrorists and terrorist weapons out of the country while enforcing hundreds of U.S. laws.
