Border Patrol Agents Seize 900 Pounds of Marijuana in Texas

Rio Grande City, Texas — Rio Grande City Border Patrol agents conducting line-watch operations in Starr County, Texas, seized more than 900 pounds of marijuana.

Yesterday, agents conducting line watch operations in Starr County encountered a Ford F-250 Crew Cab 4x4 driving east on U.S. Highway 83 from Rio Grande City, Texas. When the driver observed the agents, he abandoned the truck in a brushy area and absconded south towards the Rio Grande River and was not located. A search of the vehicle revealed 86 bundles of marijuana weighing 977 pounds with an estimated street value of $781,600.

Eighty-six bundles of marijuana were found in the back of a pick-up truck.

The vehicle was seized by the U.S. Border Patrol and the Drug Enforcement Administration assumed custody of the narcotics.
