Malian-American Author and Illustrator Baba Wague Diakite Inspires Malian English Students
Public Affairs Bamako presented English story telling sessions to three Bamako schools, featuring Malian born American author and illustrator Baba Wague Diakite. In addition to presenting stories from his award winning series, published by Scholastic books, Diakite added new tales. He stressed the importance of storytelling in valuing Malian heritage, and encouraged students to take their education seriously by reading more and watching less TV! Mr. Diakite also sponsors the Ko-Falen Cultural Center in Boulkassoumbougou Kouloubleni, which brings US artists to Mali to exchange with young artists in villages outside of Bamako (www.ko-falen.org).
