MAN PLEADS GUILTY TO SELLING ILL-GOTTEN GOODS ON eBAY

United States Attorney Mary Beth Buchanan announced today, June 10, 2008, that on June 9 2008, Gennadiy Langer, a resident of Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, pleaded guilty in federal court in Pittsburgh to a charge of wire fraud.

Langer, age 42, pleaded guilty to one count before Senior United States District Judge Gustave Diamond.

In connection with the guilty plea, Assistant United States Attorney Luke Dembosky advised the court that, from October 2003 through July 2005, Langer sold, over the online auction service eBay, merchandise that had been purchased with stolen credit card information or stolen from vehicles in the Pittsburgh area.  The merchandise was obtained by associates of Langer who brought it to him for re-sale on a regular basis.

Judge Diamond scheduled sentencing for September 9, 2008.  The law provides for a maximum sentence of twenty years in prison, a fine of $250,000, or both.  Under the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, the actual sentence imposed is based upon the seriousness of the offense and the criminal history, if any, of the defendant.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation conducted the investigation that led to the prosecution of Langer.
