Nationwide, the number of persons arrested in 2007 declined 3.3 percent from the number arrested a decade earlier (1998).
The number of adults arrested in 2007 increased 0.5 percent when compared with the number arrested in 1998; the number of juveniles arrested dropped 20.4 percent.
In 2007, the number of persons arrested for violent crimes decreased 8.9 percent from the number arrested in 1998.
A comparison of the 1998 and 2007 arrest data showed that the number of persons arrested for murder declined 11.3 percent, and the number of those arrested for forcible rape decreased 23.0 percent.
The number of people arrested in 2007 for property crimes fell 12.5 percent when compared with the 1998 number arrested.
The number of people arrested in 2007 for motor vehicle theft declined 22.4 percent from the number arrested in 1998.
For the 10-year trend, 1998 versus 2007, the number of persons arrested for drug abuse violations increased 17.6 percent. Arrests of adults for this offense increased 21.2 percent; however, arrests of juveniles for drug abuse violations decreased 5.9 percent.
