Information For Volunteers

The job of conserving America’s renewable natural resources cannot be done by government alone. The talents and skills of individuals and groups are needed and necessary.

Since 1985, the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), formerly the Soil Conservation Service, has used volunteers to help carry out our agency’s mission--helping people conserve, improve, and sustain our natural resources and environment. We call this group of volunteers the Earth Team.

Earth Team volunteers have helped achieve success in NRCS at all levels of operations.

Earth Team projects have included:

  • Tree planting
  • Computer operations
  • Engineering assistance
  • Conservation education program
  • Clerical and secretarial assistance
  • Water quality activities

AND MUCH MORE!

Earth Team volunteers work in NRCS offices across the nation. Since 1985, 101,766 Earth Team volunteers have worked more than 4 million hours. This contribution is valued at more than $48 million to the benefit of our natural resources.
