Environmental Technology Verification (ETV) Program

United States and Canada Interested in Co-Verification

In June, representatives from the U.S. EPA ETV Program attended the 1st Meeting of the International Working Group on Environmental Performance Verification, hosted by Environment Canada in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. One objective of the meeting was to identify technology areas of mutual interest for joint or co-verification. In particular, the U.S. EPA ETV Program and ETV Canada are interested in pursuing co-verification of the following example technology types: diesel retrofit (after-market), marine diesel-electric, hydronic heaters, combined heat and power, ethanol and biofuels production, biogasification, low emission ceramic kilns, baghouse filtration products, stormwater management, membrane bioreactors, manure management, ballast water treatment, and beach water quality screening. Technology vendors who are interested in co-verification can contact Evelyn Hartzell, EPA, at (513) 569-7728 for more information.

Virgina Islands to Consider ETV Verification in Selection Criteria for Solid Waste Management Facility

The Virgin Islands Waste Management Authority (VIWMA) has issued a Request for Qualifications-Proposals (RFQ-P) for a Solid Waste Management Facility to process and dispose of solid waste generated on St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands. VIWMA currently operates the Anguilla landfill where virtually all of the solid waste generated on St. Croix is disposed. VIWMA is seeking alternative solid waste disposal options and, in particular, solutions that will involve minimal or no landfilling. VIWMA is looking for the best option that will provide maximum diversion of waste from the landfill through proven technologies that generate energy products, recover other resources, and provide state of the art emissions control.

VIWMA will select proposers based on criteria, including the ability to demonstrate a successful record of technology performance. VIWMA requires that the proposed technology have been successfully used in at least one commercial solid waste management operation for a minimum of five years, and have handled at least 150 tons per day of solid waste. Alternatively, VIWMA will consider technologies that do not have a minimum five-year track record if they have been submitted for verification under the ETV Program. For additional information on VIWMA and the RFQ-P, visit http://www.sseb.org/. Exit EPA Disclaimer

Mobile Sources Device Verified

The ETV Air Pollution Control Technology Center, operated by RTI International, has verified the performance of the 201350N DOC Plus Coalescer Breather CV5061200 and Crankcase Depression Regulator (CDR) Valve 395587500, developed by Cummins Emission Solutions & Cummins Filtration. This system consists of a precious metal diesel oxidation catalyst and diesel particulate filter for controlling emissions from mobile diesel engines in highway use. The performance verified was the percentage emission reduction achieved by the technology for particulate matter, nitrogen oxides, hydrocarbons, and carbon monoxide relative to the performance of the same baseline engine without the technology in place. Operating conditions were documented and ancillary performance measurements were also made. The report and statement will be available soon on the ETV Web site.

Baghouse Filtration Product Verified

The ETV Air Pollution Control Technology Center, operated by RTI International, has verified the performance of Donaldson Company, Inc.’s 6282 Filtration Media for controlling fine particulate matter (PM2.5) emissions. The fabric filter was evaluated for the following parameters: outlet particle concentration at standard conditions (for PM2.5 and total mass), average and initial residual pressure drop, residual pressure drop increase, filtration cycle time, mass gain of test sample filter, and number of cleaning cycles. The report and statement will be available soon on the ETV Web site.
