Summary
Quarry at Casey Station, Antarctica. This layer is stored as three datasets (point, line and polygon) in the Geographical Information System (GIS). Point data are the survey data. This includes: (i) points defining the quarry and locating the nearest snow petrel nests as at September 1998; and (ii) a distribution of points, with associated heights above mean ... sea level, across the quarry area as at March 1999. Line data represents contours, the line of the quarry face and an outline of the quarry stockpile as they were in March 1999. Polygon data represents the quarry area as it was in March 1999. Attributes of the point data include coordinates. Heights above sea level for the contour lines in the line data can be deduced from the heights attributed to the point data. Attributes of the polygon data include area in square metres and perimeter in metres.

Quality
The point data are the result of a GPS survey by Jonny Stark in September 1998 and a theodolite survey by John Hyslop during March 1999. John interpolated the line data from his point data. The polygon was created to show the outline of the quarry as it was when John conducted his survey. This outline was agreed upon by Henk Brolsma, who assisted John with his survey, and Graeme Beech (Station Leader). Data Quality Indicators refer to details about the quality of the data.
