Early Infrared Sounding Data

Early Multi-Spectral Images

It is a challenge to compress the GOES-8 Imager's 5 spectral bands with a 1,000 brightness levels into the puny human 3-color, 16-level bandwidth. Imager calibration formulas and coefficients are available for people who want to try their hand at multi-spectral algorithms.

Early Visible Images

Early Infrared Images

First Infrared Image

The first infrared images from the four new channels, on May 31st, thanks to the SSEC gopher at the University of Wisconsin.

First Visible Image

The first visible images on May 9th, thanks to the SSEC gopher at the University of Wisconsin.
