U. S. Department of Housing and Urban Development Washington, D.C. 20410-8000
May 14, 1998 OFFICE OF THE ASSISTANT SECRETARY FOR HOUSING-FEDERAL HOUSING COMMISSIONER MORTGAGEE LETTER 98-21 TO: ALL APPROVED MORTGAGEES SUBJECT: Single Family Loan Production-Extension of Time for Disaster Victims of Severe Flooding in North Dakota to Apply for Section 203(h) Mortgage Insurance This Mortgagee Letter is to advise you of actions taken by the Department to assist victims of severe flooding in North Dakota. Currently, 24 CFR 203.18(e)(3) requires the application for mortgage insurance under Section 203(h) to be filed within one year following the Presidential declaration of a disaster. The President's declaration of a major disaster for this area was signed on April 7, 1997. Due to the extent of the damage and the fact that many families are still living in temporary housing, the Department has decided to extend the period for victims of this disaster to apply for Section 203(h) mortgage insurance to October 7, 1998. If you have any questions, please contact your local HUD Office or Homeownership Center. Sincerely yours, Art Agnos Acting General Deputy Assistant Secretary for Housing-Federal Housing Commissioner
