On September 8, Consul General Kevin Maher addressed approximately 30 people attending the annual meeting of the Okinawa International Visitors' Program Alumni Organization. In his remarks, Consul General Maher noted that more than 100 Okinawans have participated in the State Department program since its inception and have gone onto varied and distinguished careers in government, business and academia. He also discussed the recently concluded U.S.-Japan agreement that calls for reducing the base burden on Okinawa, while maintaining the deterrent capability of the US Military in Japan.
