the Hippodrome area , the remnant of an arena built in the reign of Septimus Severus. From here proceed to the 17th century Blue Mosque , so called due to its more than 20,000 blue Iznik tiles that adorn the interior walls. Then get ready to discover the Topkapi Palace , the residence of the Ottoman Sultans from 15th to 19th centuries. At the end of the tour visit the world famous Grand Bazaar area and then return to your hotel.

Then drive up to to St. Sophia , which was Christendom's greatest church built by the emperor Justinian, a masterpiece of Byzantine architecture. From here cross to the Underground Basilica Cistern , a mystic atmosphere carried by 336 columns.

Sunday, 8 June 2003 No school today...
SITE VISIT III, which includes
the Theodosius City Walls and Kariye district for visiting the museum of St. Saviour Church in Chora. See the well preserved mosaics and frescoes depicting scences from the Bible. Continue to the Mosque of Süleyman the Magnificent, built by the famous architect Sinan. Then drive to Turkish And Islamic Arts Museum , that was awarded as museum of the year by the Euopean Council.
