CBP Hosts Holiday “New Year-New Career” Recruiting Event to Hire Over 200 CBP Officers in San Diego and Imperial Counties

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Customs and Border Protection is hosting a CBP Officer Holiday Hiring Event called “New Year – New Career” on Wednesday, December 20 from 9am-3pm at the Caltrans District Office building in the Gallegos room located at 4050 Taylor Street, San Diego to fill more than 200 CBP Officer positions in San Diego and Imperial Counties. Applicants will be able to apply on-line at the event. Parking is limited. Use of public transportation is encouraged, a trolley station is across the street at Taylor Street and Pacific Highway.

The primary responsibilities of a CBP Officer are to protect the nation’s ports of entry by detecting and preventing terrorist and weapons of mass destruction from entering the U.S. while facilitating the orderly flow of legitimate trade and travelers.

CBP Officers are required to enforce laws related to revenue and trade, seizure of contraband, interdiction of agricultural pests and diseases and admissibility of persons.

CBP Officers perform the full range of inspection, passenger and cargo analysis, examination and law enforcement activities relating to the arrival and departure of persons, merchandise and conveyances such as cars, trucks, aircraft and ships at the ports of entry.

These are full-time, uniformed positions starting at the GS-5 level, approximately $30,030 annually with the opportunity of making up to $35,000 in overtime. The position requires regular qualification and carrying of firearms. Applicants must be U.S. citizens, have at least 3 years of general experience that demonstrate the ability to meet and work with people. Positions are contingent upon a background investigation and are subject to random drug testing. Position includes a generous benefits package and 15 weeks of paid training.
