page] Chicago Crime Commission To Recognize DEA and Area Crime Fighters WHAT: The Chicago Crime Commission will hold its Stars of Distinction, 2006 Awards Dinner to recognize outstanding individual and organizational contributions in fighting crime. DEA Administrator Karen P. Tandy will accept the Education Award along with Museum for Science and Industry partners responsible for bringing “Target America: Opening Eyes to the Danger Drugs Cause” to Chicago. “Target America” not only teaches young people about the dangers of using drugs, but it also exposes them to the science and technology behind drugs and drug law enforcement – the effects drugs have on the body, the damage drugs do to the environment, and well as law enforcement technology. Special emphasis is placed on the evolution of drug enforcement technology in Chicago, from an old-time Chicago Police Department “call box” to today’s high-tech POD surveillance cameras that transmit video wirelessly. Other awards presented include the Corporate Award to the McDonald’s Corporation; the Innovative Community Program Award to Boys II Men Training Academy, the Lifetime Media Award to John “Bulldog” Drummond; and Law Enforcement Awards that will be announced at the dinner. Additionally, awards will be presented to commission members at a reception prior to dinner. This year’s keynote speaker will be respected jurist, the Honorable Abner J. Mikva. Mikva will present a timely and thought provoking presentation titled The Role of Integrity in Government Service. Tickets for the event are available at www.chicagocrimecommission.org.
