(11/10/2008)Project Type: SBI Tactical InfrastructureSummary: Pedestrian Fence 225 (PF225) is a tactical infrastructure project that plans to construct approximately 225 miles of primary pedestrian fence along the Southwest Border. This fencing, combined with SBInet’s technology capabilities, will further U.S. Customs and Border Protection’s (CBP’s) ability to gain effective control of our Nation’s borders.Solution: Various types of pedestrian fencing are being used depending on the specific operational requirements and characteristics of the area. Solutions were tailor-made to suit the type of environment (urban, rural, or remote) and geographic and climatic characteristics (hills, rivers, mountains, forest, desert, etc.).Location: The fence is being constructed along sections of California, Arizona, New Mexico, and Texas. In all, this area covers the San Diego, El Centro, Yuma, Tucson, El Paso, Marfa, Del Rio, and Rio Grande Valley Border Patrol Sectors.Partners: The project will be carried out by a number of private sector firms via a Multiple Award Task Order Contract (MATOC) issued by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.Timing: SBInet expects that approximately 225 miles of primary pedestrian fence along the Southwest Border – as part of DHS’ goal of approximately 370 miles of pedestrian fence – will be completed, under construction, or under contract by December 31, 2008. |
