Subject: MIRS operational products (Notification) ** *Topic:* Declaration of the Operational Status of the MIRS products from NOAA-18 and MetOp-A *Date/Time(UTC) Message Issued:* 30 August 2007/1600 UTC* * * * *Satellite(s) Involved:* NOAA-18, MetOp *Product(s) Involved/Affected:* MIRS V.1 products – Temperature Profiles (over ocean), Moisture Profiles (over ocean), Total Precipitable Water (over ocean), Land Surface Temperature, Land Surface Emissivity over all AMSU-A and MHS channels. *Date/Time(UTC) of Initial Implementation:* 30 Aug 2007, 0000 UTC *Details/Specifics of Change:* Operational products are made available from Microwave Integrated Retrieval System (MIRS), which has been designed and developed to provide the enhanced/new microwave surface and precipitation products to satisfy user's requirements on quality and timeliness. It is based on an assimilation-type scheme (1DVAR) and capable of optimally retrieving atmospheric and surface state parameters simultaneously. It upgrades current NESDIS operational Microwave Surface and Precipitation Product System (MSPPS) with enhanced surface and precipitation products and also profiling capability in all-weather and over all-surface conditions. The MIRS products will be implemented into operation through a stratified phase approach. Implemented here are its Phase-I & Phase-II products, which includes temperature and moisture profiles over ocean, Total Precipitable Water (TPW) over ocean, and land surface temperature and land surface emissivity over all Advance Microwave Sounding Units-A (AMSU-A) and Microwave Humidity Sounder (MHS) channels.
