Abstract Technique of freezing of incompetent ground to render it suitable for tunneling was used in construction of a 150-ft.-long drainage tunnel for the BC highways department in the Lower Fraser valley. The 6-ft.-diam. tunnel was installed through saturated, fine-grained silt and landfill material to form part of a storm sewer bypass, carrying creek water into the main storm sewer system.
