Annotation: Intended for local practitioners, this manual shows how working relationships between the police and the community can be established in order to implement neighborhood crime prevention programs.
Abstract: Based on prior research and contacts with operating programs, the guide discusses why community organizations and police departments should get involved together in neighborhood crime prevention, how neighborhood crime prevention can be tailored to specific neighborhoods, how support can be built for crime prevention, and how to build a strong and durable program. It also describes what kinds of resources are needed for neighborhood crime prevention and the kinds of information and procedures that are needed to determine if the program is effective. Footnotes, tables, photographs, references, and an appendix of tactics for neighborhood crime prevention are included.
