Content Description

Abstract: The Geologic Faults of Jewel Cave National Monument and Vicinity, South Dakota data (JECAFLT) consists of fault arcs. The data were completed as a component of the Geologic Resources Evaluation (GRE), a co-operative program between the Natural Resources Information Division (NRID) Inventory and Monitoring Program (I&M) and the Geologic Resources Division (GRD) of the National Park Service (NPS). The spatial data (coverage/theme) was produced from a georeferenced .TIF image (300dpi) of the source map from a mylar copy. The coverage/theme (JECAFLT) was attributed as per the NPS GIS-Geology Data Model. An indexed ArcInfo .E00 (export) coverage file and an ArcView 3.X .SHP theme were then also created. The coverage/theme is within the area of interest of Jewel Cave National Monument. The coverage/theme is in NAD83, UTM Zone 13N.
Purpose: Data intended to assist NPS personnel in the protection and management of Jewel Cave National Monument.
Supplemental Information: The Geologic Faults of Jewel Cave National Monument and Vicinity, South Dakota coverage/theme (JECAFLT) is a component of the Interim Geologic Map of Jewel Cave National Monument and Vicinity, South Dakota. Other coverages/themes that comprise the Interim Geologic Map of Jewel Cave National Monument and Vicinity, South Dakota include: JECAGLG (area geologic units and contacts), JECAFLD (geologic folds), JECAATD (geologic attitude observation points) and JECASEC (geologic cross section lines). Two accessory data tables, JECAGLG1 (accessory geologic unit data) and JECAMAP (source map information), are also considered map components.
