OFIC Tegucigalpa: OFICINA-1 is not GPs-able. M83A Santa Rosa de Copan: IAGS BMs M83D was searched for but not found based on gravity base station descriptor and topo map. Others were not searched for, but showed on map. And NIMA does not have the description. I will likley set SANTA ROSA CA in a rock outcrop near weather station at airport. There is nice hotel downtown, but I'll need to look up the name. Access and sky coverage are no problem, althougj it is a bumpy last 100 meters. D026 Catacamas: D 26 is a Honduran IGN BM located about 3 km ESE of Catacamas at UNAH agriculture campus at main gate. IGN should have more info. Lodging is available on campus via the director's office. There are a number of trees in the area of the mark. Access is public on highway right of way. Catacamas is just west of area under control of Sandinistas. CABM San Pedro Sula: UNAH campus, contact is Physics professor, who speaks English. She mentioned a large concrete pad which would be suitable at GPS spot, but I did not visit it. There are also a set of BMs used by campus surveying class. The one I saw and thought to use is against the side of Science bldg and is not GPS-able, but others might be. Hotels and access are no problem with advanced notice. IGMM Guatemala City: IGM is a BM at flagpole outside office of IGN, which also holds the CORS site. Site is GPS-able although there is a metal flagpole adjacent. They also have GPS site on roof, which they routinely observe upon. Holiday Inn and Comfort Inn are close by. SANT Santa Elena: SANTA ELENA CA is at MAGA research facility about 2 km south of town (on route to a tourist cave). There is slight vegeation overhead and a power line. Setting a tripod on site will be a challenge, but doable. Lots of tourist hotels in town. We stayed at La Sabana in Flores. COBA Coban: COBAN CA is at Centro Univ of the Norte (CUNOR) campus on steps leading to Administration Bldg. GPS-able and access is no problem. La Posada Hotel is nice. GPD1 Puerto Barrios: survey Disk GPD 1 of NIMA, set as a GPS station at airport control tower on concrete post. Access is no problem. We stayed at Puerto Libre Hotel. El Salvador: ACJU Acajutla: There is an active GLOSS tide gauge and I am assuming there are tidal BMs around, one of which will be GPS-able and/or gravity observable. I did not see any, nor do I yet have descriptions. The absolute site will be at the weather station just north of Harbor Master bldg, which itself is just NE of land end of pier. Access to the pier is from the east. Access to the harbor Master bldg. is from the north. Both have guards. Access requires advance permission and possibly an escort. I have the name and address of teh facility's engineer in my office. Hotels are available in Sonsonate, again info is at my office. If not suitable or easily accessible tidal BM is found for gravity, I will set one at weather station of near north guard gate. SANS San Salvador: I have no marks in mind as a gravity excenter. i wil ask IGN & NIMA if they have anything nearby. I will set up at offices of Centro Investigaciones de Geotecnicas (seismology group) at teh east end of Ave Venezuela at east end of downtown and about 5 km west of CORS at old airport. CIG is on the edge of a hill with lots of vegetation, but there are some open areas near the street. If nothing comes up before my observations, I will set a mark on CIG grounds, which will probably be un-GPS-able. SANM San Miguel: At brand new campus of Univ of the Orient, about 4 kn WNW of city along Pan Am Hwy (CA 1). Topo map shows 2 nearby BMs along highway, but I did not attempt to recover them to see if they are their, whose they were, not GPS-ability. Vegetationis sparse, so GPS-ing should be viable. If these are not present I will set a disk SAN MIGUEL CA on campus wiht help of Civil Engineering Dept surveying group. So it will be GPS-able. Nicaragua: INET Managua: IAGS triangulation station designated INETER, although it is unstamped. On INETER grounds, about 50 m north of main gate and about 100 m north of CORS. INETER Geodesy group can point out mark and serve as hosts. Monica Drazba, NOAA co-ordinator can set up hotels. Inter-Continental and Holiday Inn are available. ESTL Esteli: CORS and gravity stations at INETER cadastral office. Gravity excenter will likley be set in bldg. foundation extension and would not be GPS-able. A pad could be poured for both, but this has not been planned. Access business hours or by appointment. Hotels: ask Monica. CHIN Chinandega: At INETER cadastral office. COncrete pad is being poured in GPS-able location for gravity excenter CHINANDEGA CA. Pad should be outside gate and publically accessible. Hotels: ask Monica. JUIG Juigalpa: No existing marks in mind. I will ask NIMA and INETER, but I do not think they have anything near the UNAN campus. Likley I will set JUIGALPA CA on campus, hopefully in a GPS-able location, but on existing concrete foundation. Access availabe thru univ administration. Hotels: ask Monica.
