Newark, N.J. — Customs and Border Protection officers at Newark Liberty International Airport arrested a 27- year old female U.S. citizen yesterday and seized a bottle of liquor containing liquid cocaine.

Cap of bottle of liquor is opened to reveal hidden cocaine.
CBP officers in Newark discovered cocaine hidden in this liquor bottle.
CBP officers selected a female passenger for a baggage exam after she arrived on a flight from Antigua. The passenger presented one suitcase and four bottles of liquor for inspection. An inspection of the contents of one of the bottles revealed an additional, makeshift capping layer under the original bottle cap.

Upon opening the bottle of coffee liqueur, a strong odor, not consistent with liquor was immediately detected. The liquid field tested positive for cocaine.

CBP officers seized almost 5 pounds of cocaine with an approximate street value of $125,000. The passenger was turned over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents. Prosecution is pending.

“CBP officers are the first line of defense in protecting the American public from the infiltration of narcotics through ports of entry,” stated Robert E. Perez, director of field operations for CBP in New York.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection is the unified border agency within the Department of Homeland Security charged with the management, control and protection of our nation's borders at and between the official ports of entry. CBP is charged with keeping terrorists and terrorist weapons out of the country while enforcing hundreds of U.S. laws.
