The IST/SIDA prevention through plays.

Sekkat A; International Conference on AIDS.

Int Conf AIDS. 2002 Jul 7-12; 14: abstract no. D11126.

Institution, Rabat, Morocco

ISSUES: In our taboo-impregnated society, one of the priorities the "Ligue Marocaine de Lutte contre les MST" has given to itself has been the necessity to show on the stage the main items regarding sex, sexuality together with their various pathology. DESCRIPTION: A little theatrical company has been appointed, the members of which come from the "Institut Superieur d'Art Dramatique et d'Animation Culturelle (ISADAC) of Rabat. Up to now about sixty performances have been given in youth institutes, youth hostels, lycees through 10 to 15 minutes' comic sketches in colloquial Arabic. The first sketch (in 1994) was called "Sida Falmida" ( the Aids on a tray). The second one in 1998 "Saal Lamjarrab" (Take an experimented person's piece of advice) registered on a video tape thanks to the U.N.P.A.F. financial help, was spread through the kingdom as an educative tool for the sake of the youth. Each performance is followed by discussions guided by a specialist often accompanied by a sociologist, and even an "aalem" (religious man). LESSONS LEARNED: Motivated by the success brought by these sketches, a 3 acts comedy on seropositivity was staged in 2001 and first showed on the Aids World Day at the Rabat Mohammed V Theatre. This last comedy has been the most successful up-to-now. RECOMMENDATIONS: Thanks to their comical side, plays allow the approach of socio-cultural, taboo-striken subjects more easily and by taking the dramatic side off them they smoothly convey the adequate educative messages.
