ASSISTANT SPECIAL AGENT IN CHARGE OFFICE	ASACO	Law Enforcement office of the assistant to the regional supervisor responsible for the investigative, administrative, and operational support activities of the Resident Agents in Charge, Special Agents, and Wildlife Inspectors in a defined geographic area.
ASSOCIATED FISH FACILITY	AFF	A Service-owned facility that is involved in the propagation or enhancement of aquatic species populations, including facilities in the National Fish Hatchery System that may be operated and maintained by an agency or entity other than the Service.
AVIATION MANAGEMENT	AIR	Defines Fish and Wildlife Service policy and procedures for the safe, efficient, and effective use of aircraft as a tool in mission accomplishment.
COORDINATION AREA	CA	Any area administrated as part of the National Wildlife Refuge System and managed by a State under cooperative agreements between the Fish and Wildlife Service and a state fish and wildlife agency.
DISPOSED PROPERTY	DP	Property that has been transferred, title and deed, to another agency or entity.
ECOLOGICAL SERVICES FIELD OFFICE	ESFO	Multi-program office responsible for:   Protecting endangered species and implementing recovery efforts; reviewing Federal water development projects and activities under Federal permit or license and recommending mitigation measures; investigating environmental contaminants; and developing and facilitating partnerships on both public and private lands to restore, conserve and protect Federal trust resources and their habitats.  This includes federally-listed threatened and endangered species, migratory fish and birds, certain marine mammals, wetlands and Federal lands, including National Wildlife Refuges.  Also provides environmental public education and outreach to to other Federal agencies, State agencies, statewide conservation groups, local land trusts and watershed associations, private industry, and landowners.
FISH AND WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT ASSISTANCE OFFICE	FWMAO	Provides fish and wildlife management technical assistance to Indian Tribes, National Wildlife Refuges, States, other Federal agencies and military installations, and local groups within a specific geographic region.  Manages entire fish communities, emphasizing native and endangered species.  Other activities include, but are not limited to, water rights negotiations, habitat protection, fish stocking, wild and stocked fish population management, wetland and riparian habitat restoration, fish passage, invasive species prevention and control, marine mammal conservation, education, recreational and subsistence fisheries management, and technical assistance to fishery management councils and commissions.
FISH HEALTH CENTER	FHC	Provides fish health inspection services to fish hatcheries in order to minimize the risk of introducing disease agents into the wild.
FISH TECHNOLOGY CENTER	FTC	Provides technical support to the National Fish Hatchery System and the fish culture community, with emphasis on improving the quality, genetic diversity, and post-release survival of captive-reared fish; identifying and reducing any detrimental effects of hatchery releases on wild fish populations; developing techniques to reduce water consumption and pollution in hatcheries; and developing and improving diets to meet nutritional requirements of captive-reared fish.
HISTORIC NATIONAL FISH HATCHERY	HNFH	Preserves and protects fishery records and artifacts for educational, research, and historic purposes; and provides interpretative and educational service to the public through the national fisheries archives and outreach program.
INTERNATIONAL CONSERVATION OFFICE	IC	Administers and implements country initiatives that strengthen the capacity of local conservation and natural resource managers and institutions to conserve wildlife and their habitats (i.e., Multinational Species Conservation Acts, Convention on Wetlands of International Importance [Ramsar Wetlands Convention], Convention on Nature Protection and Wildlife Preservation in the Western Hemisphere, and Wildlife Without Borders).
JOB CORPS CENTER	JCC	A residential education and job training facility for young people ages 16-24 who face multiple barriers to employment.  Job Corps Centers are operated by the Departments of Agriculture and Interior and are located on National Wildlife Refuges, in National Parks, and on National Forests.
JOINT VENTURE OFFICE	JVO	Responsible for implementing the North American Waterfowl Management Plan and the North American Wetlands Conservation Act on a regional scale.  Joint ventures are partnerships involving Federal, State, provincial, and local governments, businesses, conservation organizations, and individual citizens.
LAW ENFORCEMENT	LE	Focuses on potentially devastating threats to wildlife resources, such as illegal trade, unlawful commercial exploitation, habitat destruction, and environmental contaminants.  Investigates wildlife crimes, regulates wildlife trade, helps Americans understand and obey wildlife protections laws, and works in partnership with international, State, and tribal counterparts to conserve wildlife resources.
MIGRATORY BIRD COORDINATOR OFFICE	MBCO	Contributes to the conservation of both game and nongame migratory birds throughout a specific geographic area by tracking and conserving migratory bird populations.  Collects information on numbers of birds and importance of different habitats by designing and conducting a variety of studies, such as aerial surveys for waterfowl, boat surveys for marine birds, point counts on roads, trails and rivers for land birds, etc.
NATIONAL FISH HATCHERY	NFH	A Service-owned facility where fish are raised to replenish depleted stocks, mitigate federal water projects, assist with managing fishery resources on Federal (primarily Service) and Indian lands, and enhance recreational fisheries.
NATIONAL FISH HATCHERY AND TECHNOLOGY CENTER	NFHTC	A facility where the National Fish Hatchery and Fish Technology Center are co-located and dedicated to holding, studying, protecting, and managing high priority aquatic species, with emphasis on culture and management of threatened, endangered, and interjurisdictional species.
NATIONAL WETLANDS INVENTORY	NWI	Produces information about the characteristics, extent, and status of the Nation's wetlands and deepwater habitats in a variety of media (e.g., NWI maps, State wetland reports, national wetland status and trends reports, public information booklets, and specialty study reports on topics such as local wetland trends and watershed-based wetland assessments).  Makes map data available in digital form for geographic information users and to the general public through the Wetlands Interactive Mapper on the web site at wetlands.fws.gov.
NATIONAL WILDLIFE REFUGE	NWR	Any area of the National Wildlife Refuge System, except coordination areas, that are administered by the Secretary for the conservation of fish and wildlife, including species that are threatened with extinction, all lands, waters, and interests therein administered by the Secretary as wildlife refuges, areas for the protection and conservation of fish and wildlife that are threatened with extinction, wildlife ranges, game ranges, wildlife management areas, or waterfowl production areas.
NORTH AMERICAN WATERFOWL AND WETLANDS OFFICE	NAWWO	Responsible for implementing the North American Waterfowl Management Plan and the North American Wetlands Conservation Act on a national and international scale.
PRIVATE LANDS OFFICE	PLO	Manages the Partners for Fish and Wildlife program, which restores, improves, and protects fish and wildlife habitat on private lands through alliances between the Fish and Wildlife Service, other organizations, and individuals, while leaving the land in private ownership.
REFUGE ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICE	RAO	Provides technical and administrative support to a network of national wildlife refuge lands within a defined geographic location, and/or to one or more of the categories of areas that are administered by the National Wildlife Refuge System.
REGIONAL FIRE COORDINATOR OFFICE	RFCO	Oversees and facilitates the implementation of   interagency standards and policies developed at the national level, including participation in national training, overhead teams, and task groups.
RESIDENT AGENT IN CHARGE OFFICE	RACO	Law Enforcement office of the field supervisor for the investigative and administrative support activities of the Special Agents and Wildlife Inspectors currently stationed in a defined geographic area.
SPECIAL AGENT IN CHARGE OFFICE	SACO	Law Enforcement office of the regional or Washington Office branch supervisor responsible for the investigative, administrative, and operational support activities of the Resident Agents in Charge, Special Agents, and Wildlife Inspectors in a defined geographic area.
SPECIAL AGENT OFFICE	SAO	Law Enforcement office of the special agents in a defined geographic area who investigate a wide range of wildlife-related crime, including smuggling, unlawful trade in national and global wildlife resources, illegal interstate and international transportation of fish, wildlife and plants including fish or wildlife injurious to domestic resources, killing or harm to endangered species, and mortality due to environmental contaminants. Additionally, agents provide support for protection of National Wildlife Refuge resources and enforce migratory game bird hunting regulations.

WETLAND ACQUISITION OFFICE	WAO	Responsible for  meeting and complying with all wetland habitat acquisition planning requirements.
WETLAND MANAGEMENT DISTRICT	WMD	Public lands comprised of Waterfowl Production Areas, which preserve wetlands and grasslands critical to waterfowl and other wildlife and are administered as part of the National Wildlife Refuge System.
WILDLIFE AND HABITAT MANAGEMENT OFFICE	WHMO	Provides technical and biological consultation to assigned refuges on habitat and population management issues, and develops/delivers Partners for Wildlife and North American Waterfowl Management Plan field activities "regionwide" to National Wildlife Refuges, States, private landowners and other partners, including monitoring and evaluation.
WILDLIFE INSPECTOR OFFICE	WIO	A designated or non-designated Port of Entry for the importation and  exportation of wildlife and wildlife products.  Designated Ports of Entry are considered full service ports for  shipments of wildlife and wildlife products.  Non-designated Ports of Entry are limited to shipments for scientific purposes, alleviating economic hardship, or minimizing deterioration or loss, and require a special permit which is issued on a case-by-case basis.
