Border Patrol Agents in Arizona Uncover More Than 97 Pounds of Marijuana

contacts for this news releaseYuma, Ariz. – Border Patrol agents assigned to Yuma Sector’s Wellton Station seized 53 bundles of marijuana late Tuesday evening.
At approximately 9 p.m., agents assigned to the traffic checkpoint located on Interstate 8 east of Dateland, Ariz. observed a blue Dodge Caravan approach the operational checkpoint. As the vehicle neared the checkpoint, a canine team working the primary area alerted to the vehicle. During a subsequent search of the vehicle, agents discovered bundles of marijuana hidden in the dashboard. Upon further inspection, additional bundles were located in the driver and passenger doors, the rear passenger seat and the rear sidewalls. A total of 53 bundles of marijuana were seized.The 53 bundles of marijuana had a total weight of approximately 97 pounds with an estimated street value of $77,856.00.The subjects, a United States citizen and a citizen of Mexico, along with the vehicle and narcotics were turned over to the Yuma County Sheriff’s Task Force.U.S. Customs and Border Protection is the unified border agency within the Department of Homeland Security charged with the management, control and protection of our nation's borders at and between the official ports of entry.
