San Juan, Puerto Rico - Customs and Border Protection announced that on May 2, 2006, Ralph Dávila Sánchez, age 74, resident of Juncos, P.R. was arrested at the Luis Muñoz Marin International Airport after arriving from the Dominican Republic. The defendant was charged with violation of Title 18 United States Code, Sections 2252 and 2260.

The complaint filed in this case alleges that defendant Ralph Dávila Sánchez was in possession of child pornography material and he employed or used a minor in the Dominican Republic for the purposes of producing such child pornography in video format. After arriving at the airport from the Dominican Republic Mr. Dávila Sánchez was sent to secondary inspection by a Customs and Border Protection Officer who then found cameras and videocassettes which when reviewed were found to contain images of Mr. Dávila engaged in sexual acts with female minor. The videocassettes and camera were seized for further investigations.

The penalties for the charge of possession of child pornography is a maximum term of imprisonment of 10 years and for productions of child pornography a maximum term of 30 years.

The public is reminded that a complaint contains only charges and is not evidence of guilt. The defendant is presumed innocent and is entitled to a fair trial and the government has the burden of proving guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.

The US Customs and Border Protection and the United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Puerto Rico investigated this case. Assistant U.S. Attorney Jenifer Hernández is prosecuting the case.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection is the agency within the Department of Homeland Security charged with the protection of the nation’s borders. CBP unified Customs, Immigration and Agricultural inspectors and the Border Patrol into one border agency for the United States.
