Purpose
Map seafloor facies and habitats prior to removal of Elwha River dams.
Information to be Derived
Surficial geology, bathymetry, grain size, and benthic habitat.
Summary
4 days spent sonar mapping from 5 to 25 m water depths off the mouth of
the Elwha river and east. 3 days spent video groundtruthing in area mapped with
sonar. 1 day spent with bottom macro camera in sandy areas for digital grain
size analysis, with grab sampling for calibration of digital grain sizing
program. 5 bad weather days. Sonar bathy and backscatter data, processed in
the field. Digital video tapes. Digital macro photos. Bottom grab samples.
