Welcome to the Indian Reservation Roads (IRR) Inventory report website. This site provides the current IRR Inventory data in a read only format. We are providing this information so that tribal transportation planners, tribal program managers, and the public can access and assess the official IRR inventory data.
We will update the data on this site at least monthly, but between September and January, when Inventory updating activity increases, we will update it on a weekly or even daily basis, in order to provide users with the most up to date data possible.
The reports are arranged by Bureau of Indian Affairs region in PDF format. A Report Legend is available to help you identify each data field in the report. In addition, we have included the IRR Coding Guide, which will provide you more detail on each data field in the report and how the data in that field is derived or gathered.
Before you begin using the data on this site, you should be aware of some key definitions:
An Indian Reservation Road (IRR) means a public road that is located within or provides access to an Indian reservation or Indian trust land, or restricted Indian land that is not subject to fee title alienation without the approval of the Federal government, or Indian or Alaska Native Villages, groups, or communities in which Indians and Alaska Natives reside, whom the Secretary of the Interior has determined are eligible for services generally available to Indians under Federal laws specifically applicable to Indians.
The IRR Inventory means a comprehensive database of all transportation facilities eligible for IRR Program funding by tribe, reservation, BIA agency and region, Congressional district, State, and county. Other specific information collected and maintained under the IRR Program includes classification, route number, bridge number, current and future traffic volumes, maintenance responsibility, and ownership.
