Description 170 p.
Abstract Suggests how world dry bulk trade might develop between now and 1985, through a comprehensive review of the factors affecting trade and shipping of all commodities or manufactures which will be transported, in significant volume, in specialised vessels of the bulk carrier or OBO type. A great many products (and by-products) of agriculture, forestry, mining and manufacturing are transported by sea in bulk form, either as full or part-shiploads. The Survey not only reviews trade in major bulks (a term reserved for the five main commodity groups in seaborne dry cargo trade) since 1965, projecting, through an analysis of supply/demand factors, the pattern of shipments in 1980 and 1985, but also embraces 22 categories of minor bulk cargo, ranging from low value ores and minerals to semi-manufactured steel and cars. It provides reference data for shipowners, shipbuilders, Governments and others concerned with the development of the dry bulk shipping industry worldwide. The survey makes a balanced, forward-looking assessment of the trading prospects of vessels of the bulk carrier type, special emphasis being placed on the way in which demand for different sizes of ship has evolved and will evolve over the next decade.
