May 13-17, NEW IRO VISITS GEORGIAN REGIONAL LIBRARIES WITH MORE AMERICAN CORNERS SITES IN MIND
New regional Information Resource Officer Pamela Dragovich paid her first visit to Georgia on May 13-17. On May 14, IRO Dragovich together with two IRC specialists visited the first American Corner in Georgia, at Telavi Public Library. Together with collocated the IATP Internet access center, the corner will provide unique resources on American history, culture, government, and English language studies in a variety of formats - print, digital, video, and multimedia. These resources will be available not only for the residents of Telavi but to the entire population of Kakheti region, as the library is a regional center for the local library network. On May 15, IRO Dragovich made assessment trips to two more regional centers of Georgia - the cities of Gori and Kutaisi, where she visited central libraries as possible sites for more American corners in Georgia. Directors of both libraries are alumni of professional exchange programs for libraries and are very eager to introduce American culture to the local population.
