Abstract The Delaware River Port Authority in Philadelphia is pleased with the Cone Wheel that was purchased to ensure worker safety. The Cone Wheel is a truck-mounted device that automatically places and retrieves cones, removing work crews from the roadway. An increase in efficiency has been observed due to the increased speed with which cones are placed and retrieved. This article explains how the Cone Wheel has been integrated into bridge maintenance operations and notes that, with at least one lane closure everyday in Philadelphia, speed and efficiency are extremely important.
