Crew
Guy Cochrane Chief Scientist, USGS Western Region
Russ Vetter Chief Scientist, National Marine Fishery Service
John Butler Biologist, National Marine Fishery Service
Nicole Nasby Ecologist, Phleger Inst Envir. Res.
John Wagner ROV Technician, National Marine Fishery Service
Equipment Used
submersible
Purpose
ROV groundtruthing of sidescan sonar.
Scientific purpose/goals visual groundtruthing of sidescan sonar mosaics to be used for nearshore benthic habitat maps.
Information to be Derived
Benthic habitat maps will be compiled
Summary
ROV deployments were conducted in 4 areas in the study area.
2 were within the Channel Islands National Marine Sanctuary,
2 others were in California state fish reserves along the California coast.
Digital video was recorded on all ROV deployments.
Observations of benthic geology and biologic assemblages were recorded
as point data in an ArcView project.
