Setting Up a prn File Association in Windows XP
NASIS users who have been migrated to a CCE Windows XP system can use these
instructions for re-setting up NASIS printing. It is not necessary to do a
complete NASIS printer setup, if you were printing from NASIS prior to being
migrated.
- Open My Computer (“Start | My Computer | Local Disk (C:)”).
- Select “Tools | Folder Options | File Types | New”.
- Enter file extension “prn”.
- Find and highlight file type “PRN PRN File” in list. Click “Change”.
- Click on the radio button beside “Select the Program from a List”. Click
“OK”.
- Find and highlight program “Print Utility”. Click “OK”. Click “Close”.
Hint: If you can't find “Print Utility”, use the browse button and select
c:\Windows\system32\print.exe.
- To print the report attachment in Outlook, right click on email
attachment and select print from menu. Printer must be mapped to LPT1 as
usual.
- To map a networked printer to LPT1, click on “Start | All Programs |
USDA Applications | Utilities | Map Printer to LPT1”. Click on a server name
and then select a printer.
