On The Line updates CBP employees on transition issues

The transition to the Department of Homeland Security is on the minds of many Customs and Border Protection (CBP) employees. If you would like to be informed about important transition issues, then tune in to the On The Line communication series.

Each segment of On The Line features senior CBP leaders discussing important topics-the newly integrated CBP organization, CBP progress in achieving its goals, and "best practices" currently making their way through the organization.

Current episodes focus on:

  • Mission Statement-Commissioner Robert Bonner and Deputy Commissioner Douglas Browning discuss progress in transitioning one fifth of the overall Department of Homeland Security workforce into Customs and Border Protection. They also talk about CBP's new mission statement.
  • Core Values-Commissioner Robert Bonner and Deputy Commissioner Douglas Browning discuss newly created CBP core values and showcase ways in which CBP employees can demonstrate these values on the job.
  • Anti-Terrorism-Assistant Commissioner Jayson Ahern, Office of Field Operations, and Chief Gus De La Viña Border Patrol, discuss CBP's anti-terrorism mission, as well as tools and training provided to employees on the frontline.
  • Trade-Commissioner Robert Bonner discusses CBP's twin goals-preventing terrorism and facilitating the legitimate flow of trade and people. Commissioner Bonner also provides an update on the Container Security Initiative, the Customs-Trade Partnership Against Terrorism, and the 24-Hour Rule.
  • One Team, One Organization-Office of Field Operation's Assistant Commissioner Jayson Ahern, Associate Commissioner Mary Neal, and Associate Commissioner Michael Cronin, and Border Patrol's Chief Gus De La Viña discuss the CBP unified chain of command and musters. These officials from OFO and Border Patrol also provide their insights into the CBP transition.
