Crime and Punishment in Y2K

Assume the world is in the middle of a Y2K meltdown and all the existing prosecution and sentencing laws for juvenile offenders have been destroyed. During this seminar, you will draft a new criminal code for youth in the United States. Once the new criminal code for juvenile offenders has been established, you will participate in a mock trial and sentencing proceeding by applying the laws developed in the seminar.

Questions to Consider:

What would you change about the way juveniles are handled in the court system?

When should juveniles be treated as adults?

What elements are critical to an effective juvenile justice system in the year 2000?
