Crime and Punishment in Y2K

Assume the world is in the middle of a Y2K meltdown and all the existing prosecution and sentencing laws for juvenile offenders have been destroyed.  During this seminar, you will draft a new criminal code for youth in the United States.  Once the new criminal code for juvenile offenders has been established, you will participate in a mock trial and sentencing proceeding by applying the laws developed in the seminar.

Questions to Consider:

  • What would you change about the way juveniles are handled in the court system?
  • When should juveniles be treated as adults?
  • What elements are critical to an effective juvenile justice system in the year 2000?
