TUS-1 Project

(11/10/2008)
Project Type:
SBInet Technology

Summary:
TUS-1 is the first of two operational deployments of the SBInet technology solutions. TUS-1 will employ a network of fixed towers equipped with radar, sensor, and remotely operated camera equipment, which provide 24-hour, year-round capabilities that will help detect and/or deter illegal entries into the United States.

Solution:
Using a network of fixed towers equipped with communications, radar, sensor and remotely operated camera equipment, TUS-1 lays a foundation that enhances CBP’s Command, Control, Communications, and Intelligence (C3I) capabilities. The technology solution will be linked together to provide a “Common Operating Picture” (COP) of real-time operational information and images. Among other supporting components and capabilities, the project includes 9 sensor towers; 8 communication towers, 200 unattended ground sensors, and; 6 miles of access roads improvements/construction.

Location:
Project components will be deployed over 23 miles of the U.S-Mexico border near the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Sasabe, Ariz., Port of Entry.

Partners:
The TUS-1 Project is a partnership between CBP and the Boeing Company.

Timing:
Construction is scheduled to begin in the first quarter of calendar year 2009.
