Title RESCUE SATELLITE IN DEVELOPMENT PROJECT "SHIP OF THE FUTURE"
Accession No 00685475
Authors Zander, A
Publication Date   19830000
Languages German
Abstract As part of the development project "Ship of the Future" sponsored by the West German Ministry for Research and Technology, Werft Nobiskrug GmbH has evolved a design concept for a marine rescue satellite designated ET-69. The satellite which can accommodate 28 persons is constructed in the form of a boat-shaped cylinder with a flat stern and a flared stem which is directly integrated with the deckhouse structure. In this position, the satellite is protected from damaging environmental influences and is always ready for service. The launching procedure which is controlled from within the satellite, is achieved via a set of longitudinal and transverse rails. Over 200 launching tests have been carried out at HSVA with a 1:10 scale model in various sea states and at heights corresponding to 16, 24 and 32m. Full-scale testing and evaluation of the system is planned for early December, with a prototype version installed in a newly-built refrigerated ship.
