CBP plans to utilize annuitants to serve in various capacities, including but not limited to, recruiter, interviewer, security specialist, instructor, and analyst positions as well as other operational support positions. Positions will be located throughout the United States. |

Dependent on the position, appointments may last up to 3 years, with possible 1-year extensions, or up to 2 years, with no possible extensions. | |
Q: | Do selections require competition? | A: | Annuitants may be non-competitively reinstated to positions with promotion potential no greater than the potential of the position from which retired or highest grade previously held on a permanent basis in the competitive service. If you retired under Federal Employees Retirement System (FERS) and you return on or after December 2, 1994, your sick leave balance will be re-credited to you without regard to the date of separation. |
