EVERETT, Wash. -- Public health officials, Washington Emergency Management Division and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) urge residents affected by the recent severe storms that occurred October 15 – 23 who rely on private wells to have their water supply tested if any of the following conditions exist:

Residents and business owners affected by the storms are urged to call the toll-free registration number, 1-800-621-FEMA, to apply for assistance. People with hearing or speech impairments can call (TTY) 1-800-462-7585 for assistance. Applications can be made between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. seven days a week until further notice.

On March 1, 2003, FEMA became part of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. FEMA's continuing mission within the new department is to lead the effort to prepare the nation for all hazards and effectively manage federal response and recovery efforts following any national incident. FEMA also initiates proactive mitigation activities, trains first responders, and manages the National Flood Insurance Program and the U.S. Fire Administration.
