San Juan, Puerto Rico – Today, citizens of Ponce, P.R. had the opportunity to obtain information on U.S. Customs and Border Protection, including the opportunities and benefits this agency offers as an employer. Personnel from Centros Sor Isolina Ferrer invited Customs and Border Protection along with other employers of both the private and public industry to participate in a job fair at their facilities. Centros Sor Isolina Ferrer is a community base center with over 40 different programs that provides assistance to the public.

Leading this endeavor were recruiters for the Office of Mission Support, who are tasked in attracting high-quality candidates for frontline U.S. Customs and Border Protection positions. They conduct open houses and job fairs to attract the best applicants.

Customs and Border Protection has a complex mission that has required our officers to develop new skills. Officers are receiving training regarding potential terrorist weapons, including how the weapons might be packaged or hidden, how to use large-scale X-ray and gamma ray machines to search for anomalies, and how to detect and secure instruments of terror.

Our focus on fighting the terrorist threat requires an extraordinary commitment of man-hours. Customs and Border Protection has embarked on a recruiting initiative to hire more of the best-qualified men and women to safeguard America’s borders.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) is the unified border agency within the Department of Homeland Security charged with the management, control, and protection of our Nation's borders at and between the official ports of entry. CBP is charged with keeping terrorists and terrorist weapons out of the country while enforcing hundreds of U.S. laws.
