Abstract |
The data acquisition system currently used in the Belle experiment at KEK is based on the FASTBUS readout system which has a readout deadtime. In coming few years, the luminosity of the accelerator is expected to increase drastically, resulting in a higher trigger rate. This also leads to a large increase in the readout dead time fraction. To solve this problem, we have developed a new readout system based on pipelined TDCs equipped in common readout platforms (COPPERs). One sub-detector readout system consists of about 100 readout modules and a set of readout PCs. Unlike FASTBUS modules, each COPPER module houses its own CPU and sends data to readout PCs using its network interface. The run-control scheme of the system is also network-based. We have more than 100 CPUs to be controlled synchronously in the system. We have installed a full scale readout system for the central drift chamber (CDC) which will replace the current system. The detail of the system and the performance in the beam run will be reported at the conference. |
