The National Advisory Council on Violence Against Women presents a checklist for religious organizations, colleges and universities, police, health care professionals, sports players and organizations, the media, and workplaces to use in helping to end violence against women. |

The checklist for religious organizations includes providing a safe place, educating the congregation, speaking out about domestic violence and sexual assault from the pulpit, leading by example, offering space, preparing to be a resource, supporting professional training, and addressing allegations of abuse by religious leaders. The checklist for colleges and universities includes making the campus a safe place, educating students and faculty, targeting special groups, coordinating resources, encouraging the reporting of violence, and developing an administration response to campus violence. Police are urged to create a community roundtable, record domestic violence, provide clear guidance on responding to domestic violence, and implementation of a statewide registry of restraining orders. Health care professionals are advised to take action in the areas of training, the incorporation of protocols into the accreditation process, continuing education on violence against women, and increasing awareness among medical organizations and societies. Checklist suggestions for sports personnel and organizations involve a coordinated response, strict disciplinary policies, public service announcements during sports event broadcasting, distribution of educational materials, and the involvement of sports figures in the fight against violence toward women. The media checklist focuses on the use of innovative media programs and community involvement in violence prevention concepts and activities. The checklist for workplaces focuses on management's involvement, education of employees about domestic violence, increased safety and security in the workplace, and cooperation with police. Advisory Council members are listed. |
