Thank you for your interest in the IPP Seed Fund. This site provides information about the call and how to file a submission. Check back often.

The goals of the IPP Seed Fund are to:

  • Be an initiative to enhance NASA’s ability to meet mission technology goals by providing seed funding to address barriers and initiate cost-shared, joint-development partnerships.

  • Provide ”seed” funding to enable larger partnerships and development efforts to occur and encourage, to the maximum extent possible, the leveraging of funding, resources and expertise from non-NASA partners, NASA Programs and Projects, and NASA Centers.

  • Provide NASA missions with an increased range of technology solutions, a broadened technology portfolio, improved cost avoidance, accelerated development and maturation of technologies, and a larger pool of qualified commercial providers.

Some key parameters of this internal IPP Seed Fund Call are:

  • Cost sharing must be at a minimum a dollar-for-dollar value match from IPP Seed Funds and the external partner resources.

  • NASA Program/Project support and cost sharing is required (does not have to be at equal value to IPP Seed Funds requested).

  • Cost sharing can be in multiple forms including: funding, labor, facility usage, access to materials, etc.
Partnerships can be with industry, academia, research institutions, national laboratories and other government agencies for joint development of technology that is of primary interest to NASA.

  • Each NASA Center shall submit no more than eight proposals to HQ IPP in response to the Call.

  • Submission MUST be through the IPPOs at each Center

  • Project awards are expected to range in value from $100K to $250K (IPP Seed Fund portion); however, proposals at lower amounts are acceptable and those exceeding $250K will be allowed on an exception basis only.

  • Projects will typically be awarded as one year or less in duration.

  • Funds for winning proposals will be transferred to the IPPOs at those Centers for award and management of the projects.

  • Proposed projects will be competitively selected by HQ IPP in coordination with representatives from each of the four Mission Directorates based on the criteria identified within this Call.
